Why focus on being remarkable?

Without passion, work and life just suck. By setting our goals up to "be remarkable" it forces us to figure out why we or anybody else would care about what we are doing. The only real way to get people to care is to fill it up with passion and then proceed to surprise and delight by exceeding expectations. Thus by focusing on being remarkable, we make sure that life doesn't suck.

Why spend so much time at "unpaid" community events?

Community events are the vibrant lifeblood surrounding a product, industry, or idea. It is where the best new thoughts come from and where many of the smartest and most passionate people can be found. On a personal note, I do a lot of presenting/speaking at these events (which are almost always not paid), because I am passionate about the topics and enjoy "giving of my art" to people who are eager to receive it. At the same time I very much like sharing in others art by learning from them both in the formal sessions and networking beyond the event walls.

Why did you leave your cushy executive job?

My former employer and I have a great relationship built by over 10 years working together. We are still on very good terms and in fact they are one of my best customers now. I left so that I could pursue some very specific passions of my own that did not necessarily align with the strategic plans that I helped co-develop at the firm. Primarily these passions are related to the areas of product development and social networking.
